Chairman and CEO
In 2009, the US Air Force awarded our organization contracts totaling $162 million to construct 259 new military housing units at Eielson AFB. The projects are part of the second largest construction project performed for the US Air Force. The housing is being constructed in triplex and fourplex configurations and includes demolition of existing, outdated units and the construction of all supporting site infrastructure and utilities.
The project team developed a method called “the train” in which crews build the houses in a sequential process similar to an automobile assembly line. The homes are constructed using pre-fabricated panels fabricated off-site and then assembled on site. Using these pre-fabricated panels helps expedite construction and provides a higher quality product than traditional construction since measurements are more exact and quality is monitored in a controlled environment. The interiors of each home will be heated by an under-slab glycol radiant heating system that has been found to work very efficiently in extremely cold regions.
Coordinating work around Alaskan winters is the greatest challenge facing the project team. Crews take advantage of the short summer months to install underground utilities, perform paving and site work, and build the exterior shells of each structure. This project has received an interim Outstanding CCASS performance rating from the client.
